When researching James Braman (b 1697) who married Elizabeth Carpenter, it did seem quite likely to me that he is the same James, father of Esther (b. 1740) found in Voluntown CT. (Voluntown is JUST over the border from RI) If so, he would be a descendant of Thomas Braman (b abt June 1614, living in Taunton MA 1652 or 1653, etc etc). However, if James and Elizabeth (Carpenter) Braman had Sarah b 13 Sept 1731, there is a problem somewhere, as the Voluntown James and Elizabethwere having John, b 12 April 1731! On the other hand, one of you had all the Voluntown children listed as born in RI.I have found other Braman families whose children's births are found in more than one town, though. So I won't unlink the two Jameses just yet. Solomon (b 1723, married Content Jenks) evidently remained in RI, as the 1790 US Census for RI lists a "Content Bramin" (and evidently a widow and therefore head of her household too).I wonder if, because he was named after his grandfather Solomon Carpenter, he might have remained in the latter's household when the rest of the family moved to Voluntown?
