My Great Grandmother's name was Barbara Brandstetter or Brandstadter or Brandstaedter and was born in September 1866 in Germany. I do not have any other information on the German side or on any of her other relatives/anscesters. She settled in the area of NYC known as Brooklyn at the time but it probably was closer to what today is known as Queens County. She married Conrad Alster in 1884 and had 11 known children, one of which was my grandmother Elizabeth (Alster) Dietz(1893). The other children and birth years were, George(1887), Peter(1889), John(1895),Pauline(1898), Conrad jr.(1899), Fred(1903),Christine(1905), Charlotte(1908) and 2 more so far not identified. My grandmothers birth certificate and baptismal certicificate list the name as being BRANDSTADTER but her death certificate and cemetery records say BRANDSTETTER. I have found 1 Barbara BRANDSTAEDTER who was christened on Oct 7, 1866 Evangelisch, Klingenmuenster, Pfalz, Bayem which would be approximately the right christening date for someone born in September. I have not found any passenger ship lists for a Barbara with any of these last name spellings but somewhere there has to be at least one. If anyone recognizes this name or has any information, no matter how obscure, please forward it to me as it will be worth my time investigating all angles. Barbara and her husband Conrad are buried in Mt Olivet cemetey in Maspeth Queens NY. Thank You..
