Arthur was born, 7 Nov 1879, one of six children of Julius F. and Amelia (Noll) Breitenstein. Julius was born in 1843 at St. Louis, MO.He enlisted in the Confederate navy and assigned to the Merrimack (an account of Merrimack battles is included in this biography).Amelia Noll was born 1850 at Quincy, IL, and married there in 1873.
Arthur was educated in the public schools of Burlington, IA. His first employment was a call boy for the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad.He subsequently worked for the Great Northern and Northern Pacific Railways.While working for the NP, he came to Missoula, MT, in 1900, as a member of the superintendent's office force for four years.The following five years he was manager of a mercantile, but gave up that position to become secretary of the Missoula Chamber of Commerce for three years. For two years he was the manager of the Montana State Fair. On 1 Mar 1915, Arthur came to Great Falls as secretary of the Commercial Club.On 6 May 1918, he became manager of the Hotel Rainbow, one of the best-known hotels in the Northwest.
On 10 Dec 1903, Arthur was married to Margaret Gillies, born in Burlington, IA.Breitenstein children: Dixon, Margery, Elinor.
