Hello, I am researching my son-in-laws family.His grandmother ish Helen Rose Breitenbach.Her mother was 7 when she left Germany with her parents, grandparents, two bothers and three sisters.The family feared that two of the boys would be drafted, so they set off for the US. Another brother who had a sore on his arm, had to stay behind until it healed.Then he joined the rest of the family in Wisconsin.
The family settled in Madison, Wis. where Victors (Helen's brother) mother (Helen)met and married his father.In 1915 his father bought 215 acres around Pretty Prairie and built a house, barn and granary.In 1918 he moved his family which included two children to Pretty Prairie. Five more children were born in Kansas. Victor is second to the youngest and the only one left of his siblings. Helen Breitenbach married Marcellus Otto Gorges in 1939 in Mt. Vernon KS.They settled in Colwich Kansas.
Any help or connection that you might have would be greatly appreciated.They think that her fathers name might be Frank.
