Sorry about that, Joy. Hope it works this time. William Brewen had two sons from his marriage to Nancy Hayes, William Martin Van Buren Brewen (Van) and Andrew Jackson Brewen (Jack). They enlisted in the Confederate service and both were killed in Vicksburg according to a family member who has since passed away. In checking some Confederate records, I found listings for both boys. Both cited Lownes, Wayne County, MO as their birthplace. Both enlisted in the 2nd Missouri Cavalry (Confederate), company K, on 7 March 1862 at Greenville, MO. William's record has the notation that he deserted on 10 September 1863 at Grenada, MS. Andrew's record states he deserted 15 February 1864 at Oxford, MS. I had no idea where these boys finally ended up but began to wonder when I checked Texas death records and saw a few Brewens listed that had Van or Van Buren in their names.
I am descended from William Brewen through his daughter Elizabeth from his first marriage. Hope this helps.
Lucy
