My name is Christopher Bryce.I believe that my g-g-g-grandfather, William Bryce and his wife Mary (Wright) Bryce are the people who cared for your ancestor, Catherine Dick.
It is clear that the Dicks came to Ontario in the same migration that included my Bryces, and they were with the party that landed in Prescott to begin the overland trek to Lanark County in Ontario. They may have been witnesses to your g-g-g-grandfather's tragic drowning and your g-g-g-grandmother's even more tragic death before they reached their destination.
I may have to re-read some of my materials and maybe check census records or other resources to see if this was indeed my family who took in one or more of the orphaned children, but I'm not aware of any other Bryce families who came at that same time.
My Bryces emigrated to Ontario on the ship "Commerce" in 1821.The other three ships that sailed from Scotland at that time are also known; I'll look for evidence of which ship your family came on - or maybe you have some info on this.
A little more information on your Catherine and any other Dick family members you may know about would be helpful.I have copies of the Dick letters, and also accounts of the voyage to Ontario.
This is a great story, and I'm very pleased to see your post.I had tried to search out some Dicks to learn more about this matter, but without any success.
