EARLY FINCASTLE, VA RECORDS TAKEN TO WISC
I have found out that most surviving early Fincastle records were taken in the 1850's by a Professor Lyman Draper who visited Christiansburg, VA while researching his own Draper family roots and was allowed to take as many of the records as he wanted! He took them back to Wisconsin with him and they are now located at the University of Wisconsin at Madison!!This is an outrage for other families with Virginia roots who would like to see those papers. They should be returned to Christiansburg to the court house from where they were taken or at least sent to Botetourt County Courthouse where Fincastle is now located. Most people wouldn't have any idea what happened to all those records and most of them if they knew wouldn't be able to travel to Wisconsin in the hope that the Univ of Wisconsin would let them see those records!
