My ancestor, James Briggs, was from Ireland, according to the 1860 New Orleans census. I believe his middle name may have been Henry. I have no info regarding birthplace or parents. From the New Orleans census info, I calculate that he was born about 1825. I believe he may have spent some time in Virginia before going to New Orleans. He married in New Orleans in 1848 and lived there until his enlistment in the Confederate Army, where he served as a blacksmith. With so few Briggs families in Ireland, it would seem there might be some connection among those listed in this forum. I would appreciate hearing from any of you who might have discovered an Irish James Briggs in your research.
