The Briggs are a very well known family in Alvaston and Thulston. My information is that Elizabeth Mary Briggs was baptised 10th May 1835 at Alvaston. She was at school in Spondon on 1841 census and school at Matlock on 1851 census.
Daughter of John & Christian Briggs.John was a farmer in Alvaston.Available on census in Alvaston, then lived in Derby but died at his son Robert’s house in Alvaston 9th June 1863 aged 74.John baptised 2nd February 1789 son of William and Sarah (Cowley) at Alvaston.John left a Will – Elizabeth is mentioned.Proved 13th July 1863 M253 pages 455-458 available from Derbyshire Records Office
Elizabeth married George Kerr Hallett (Retired Captain) 1865 St George’s Hanover Square and in Leopold Street Derby on 1861 census with child William born in Alvaston.
Robert was her brother, he was born in Alvaston. His farm was The Grange, near to the church on Alvaston Street.
Alvaston Grange was on the then London Road (now Shardlow Road)and a different farm, so maybe the certificate should have read Grange, Alvaston, Derby.
