I may have found some information re: Francis E. Briggs that might prove useful in your search. From the 1900 census (NY) and the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census (VT), we know that Francis E. Briggs was b Mar 1867 in NY.His
father was born in Vermont and his mother was born in Ireland.Francis and Annie married about 1888.They had several children born in NY and VT, most of whom died in infancy or early childhood.I found the birth of a
daughter, Wnnifred Annie Briggs b 19 Feb 1893 in Brooklyn. The name is important to note because circumstantial evidence indicates that the name of Francis' mother was Winnifred.I also found the births of three children born
to them in Fair Haven, VT:Caroline E. Briggs 16 april 1903, Veronica Hazel Briggs 14 Oct 1905 and Thomas Ellsworth Briggs b 12 Aug 1908, d 16 Aug 1908.These records revealed the birth location of both Francis and Annie.
Caroline's record states Annie was b in West Castleton, VT with no birth location stated for Francis. The birth records of Veronica and Thomas both state Annie's birth location as Castleton and Francis' birth location as
Schenectady, NY. After finding Annie and her family (Timothy and Ann McLaughlin) living in Castleton in the 1880 census, I had a hunch that Francis might have been in the same area.Another factor that led me to think this was
the occupation of Timothy McLaughlin in the 1870 census. He worked in a slate mill. The occupation of Francis E. Briggs was slate marbelizer in all the census records I found.I found a Frank Briggs, age 15, b NY, father b
VT and mother b Ireland, recorded in the 1880 census, living in Castleton with his grandmother, Bridget Holleran, age 60, b Ireland. There was also a sister named Annie, aged 10, b OH, father b VT, mother b Ireland. This is
the only Francis, Frank Briggs b NY, father b VT, mother b IRE all the census recs. for 1870 and 1880.I believe this to be your Francis Briggs. The census indicated that the family was in OHIO for the 1870 census so I looked
there for them.I located them in Uhrichsville, Tuscarawas Co., OH in the 1870 census:Winnie Briggs, 26, b VT; Frank, 6, b NY; Sibbel, 1, b OH; John Holran, 19, b VT.No father listed in the household, drats! However, I
checked Ohio birth records and only found one child:a Sybel Briggs was b 17 Sep 1869 in Uhrichsville, OH to William K Briggs and Winnie Long.
