Boy, am I glad to hear from you!Mina was the sister of my husband's 4 great-grandfather.Mina's parents were Martin BRIGHAM, b. 1804 in New York and Betsey (Sarah) MCMILLAN b. 1806 NY. Martin and Sarah had 9 children:
1.Martin H. b. 20 Dec 1831 in Knoxboro, Oneida NY.he married Mary Jane DAVIS in 1854 and died 23 Jun 1917 in Lawton, Comanche Co., OK.He was my husband's 4 great-grandfather.
2.George W. b. 1837 in Vernon, Oneida, NY and married ? 19 May 1864.He died 19 May 1864 in VA.
3.Gemina "Mina" N, b. 29 Apr 1841 Knoxboro, Oneida NY.She married Seth Eliphaz BARTON 31 May 1869, and died in 1895 in Oriskany Falls, Oneida NY.I have a copy of her newpaper obituary, and will find it and send it to you.
4.Sarah L., b. 1843 d. 1895 NY
5.Dewitt C., b 1849 d. 5 Sep 1871 and buried in Twitchell Cem, Vernon, Oneida, NY.
The BRIGHAM family kept extensive records and I have boxes and boxes of old photos, tintypes and family correspondence and records.I have hit a brick wall in finding Martin Sr.'s parents. The 1860 NY census shows him living in Marshall, Oneida NY and lists his profession as a blacksmith. It says he was born in NY, but I have not found his parents.
Lots of Brighams came from Mass., VT., and NH but years of searching have not found Martin's parents. So 1804 is as far back as I can take it.I am pleased to know more about Sarah. Will you tell me everything you know?
The 1860 census shows an Andrew McMILLAN living next to the BRIGHAM family; we think this is either Sarah Sr.'s father or brother. Also there is an Alonzo BRIGHAM on the previous page.this must be some relation, as the 7th son is also named Alonzo.
Please respond soon and tell me everything you know about Sarah!
