"THOMAS Brigham, the ancestor of the Brighams in New England, embarked at London for America, April 18, 1835, in the shipSusan and Ellyn, Edward Payne, master. He was then 32 years of age, and consequently was born in 1603.He settled in Watertown, near Cambridge line, on land which was afterward set to Cambridge.He was made freeman in 1639, and was selectman in 1640, and subsequently.He married about 1637, Mercy Hurd, born in England.He died December 18, 1653, and she married 1655, Edmund Rice, then of Sudbury, but afterwards of Marlborough.He died and she married as her 3rd husband, William Hunt of Marlborough, who died in 1667, and she died 1693.
Children born to Thomas and Mercy Hurd Brigham:Mary; THOMAS, b. 1641, married Mary Rice, daughter of Henry Rice; John, b. March 9, 1645; Hannah, b. March 9, 1650; md. Samuel Wells of Connecticut; and Samuel, b. January 12, 1652; md. Elizabeth Howe.
THOMAS Brigham, md. Mary Rice, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Moore) Rice.She died and he md. Mrs. Susanna Morse of Watertown.He d. November 25, 1717, aged 76.He came into Marlborough with his mother, who married Edmund Rice, and on arriving at age, he purchased a town right, settled in the southwest part of the town, on what is now called the "Warren Brigham farm," and on the south road to Northborough.The house which he built after King Philip's War, is still (1862) standing; and even the chair in which he expired is in the neighborhood, in the possession of one of his descendants, Mrs. Lewis Ames.He was a prominent man in the town.Children of Thomas and Mary Rice Brigham:Thomas, b. Feb. 24, 1666; Nathan, b. June 17, 1671; Jonathan, b. Feb. 22, 1674, md. Mary Fay; David, b. April 12, 1678, resided in Wetborough, GERSHOM, b. Feb. 23, 1680, d. January 3, 1749; Elnathan, b. March 7, 1683, md. Bethiah Ward, moved to CT; Mary, b. October 26, 1687, md. Jonas Houghton, Lancaster; and David, b. April 11, 1673, died young.
GERSHOM Brigham md. Mehetabel ???.He was a physician and a land surveyor.He d. January 3, 1749.Children of Gershom and Mehetabel were:Martha, b. October 6, 1704, md. Joseph Bigelow; JOSEPH b. April 21, 1706, md. Comfort Bigelow;,Abigail, b. November 25, 1708; md. John Snow; Gershom, b. November 4, 1712, md. Mary ??? and resides in West.; and Benjamin, b. February 19, 1715, md. Hannah ???
JOSEPH Brigham md. August 26, 1728, Comfort Bigelow, daughter of John Bigelow, who previous to the birth of this daughter was taken by the Indians, and carried into captivity; and after his return he named his first daughter "Freedom" and his second "Comfort."She died 1755, and he md. 1751 (discrepancy her, according to this he married 2nd wife before first died) Ruth ward, widow of Elisha Ward.She d. 1786 and he d. July 29, 1786.He was a prominent man in Marlborough and had a family of 11 children.....MEHETABEL, BORN JULY 14, 1729; MD 1749, SAMUEL JONES; Sarah, b.
