My grandfather, George David Brigham, was born 1867 in Holly Springs, Miss; died 1952 in Santa Cruz, Calif. His mother Lydia LaStrange Brigham was born in Ireland, and died soon after his birth. His father David Luney (or Looney) Brigham, born 1836 in Tenn, died 1906 in Johnson County, Ark. David L's second wife was Mary Louisa Todd by whom he had seven more children. David L. Brigham's mother, Sophia, was born 1806 in Tenn. and died 1889 in Johnson County, Ark.The name on her tombstone is Sophia Parker, and states "Erected by her son D.L. Brigham." I am assuming David's father died and she had married again. I found a marriage record of Sophia Brigham and Solomon Parker,m.1847 in Pope County, Ark. Solomon and Sophia are on the 1850 Pope census, but Sophia's age is given as 30 and David's mother Sophia would have been 44 in 1850. Can someone give me some ideas on this? Could the census taker have made a mistake in the age? Or perhaps she lied about it? David would have been 14 in 1850 and he isn't listed on the census with them. It doesn't seem likely that there were 2 Sophia Brighams in the same area who each married a Parker, does it? I haven't been able to trace my Brighams any further than to David L. and his mother Sophia. I don't know who his father was. Can someone help me with this?
