I have little more to go on.This was Romeo Milton Chamberlin, and his bride from Boston was Kate Jane Gouge. I have thought that Romeo's initial business was importing from China, but I do not know that. Later he was in real estate. After their arrival, I have no further information on the Brighams. Chamberlin was from Ascutneyville VT, and I note in cemetery records there that there are Brighams buried there, but I don't know if that is significant. Do your folks have a Vermont connection? In Boston, Romeo was in various business -- ships chandler, the coastal trade to Maine in molasses and whiskey, and possibly real estate. I have a friend in San Francisco who is looking up deed and business records of the period, and if he turns up anything more about Brigham I'll let you know. I wonder if the trip of 2 or 3 months would have been around Cape Horn or across the Isthmus of Panama. Wish I could find record of Kate's letters to her family, or a diary . . . but no luck so far.
