My ancestor, Charles Bright d. in Marlboro Co., SC in March, 1830.He was a very prosperous landowner and slaveholder. His wife's name was Mary (c. 1768--1830/40).It was for them that Brightsville Twp was named.I am interested in corresponding with descendants of this pair.Children remaining in South Carolina included Arthur (1788-1829), Drusilla Bright (1792--1866), wife of Samuel Goodwin (her children, Ebenezer W., John, Matilda, Permelia, Emily)Catherine Bright who m. John Smith, and Mary Bright(b. 1798) who m. Jonathan Adams, (d. 1834), and Elizabeth Bright who m.(1820) Smith W. Dozier.Others were Bassett Caleb Bright m. (1818) Obedience Adams, Lodowick B. Bright, Godfrey Bright m. Sarah Easterling, , Parrington G. Bright m. Charlotte Easterling (1816), and my ancestress, Frances Bright m. (1) Thoroughgood Pate (1807), (2) John Brickhouse (1818).Frances later moved to Gibson County, Tennessee with her second husband.Godfrey and Parrington Bright finished in Hempstead Co., AK.Would like to know what became of Lodowick and Bassett.Charles Bright is thought to have been born in Currituck Co., NC, to Henry Bright (will, 1766.)This is by no means certain.Parrington Bright lists his place of birth in 1850 census as Virginia.I know there were some German Brights (Brechts) in Virginia and the name "Lodowick" suggests a German background.Cannot find any indication in the tax lists or other records that Charles was there. There is a census entry in Currituck County, 1790, that seems to correspond to the Marlboro one in 1800 though.Would like to discuss these and other issues with interested persons.
