Murder in Grant County
J. M. Bright, of Harney Valley, was found dead on Rock creek on day last week, having been murdered. The murder is supposed to have been committed by some one who thought he had money.Mr. Bright was a peddler. He was on his way home from Ontario to Harney when the murder was committed. The Grant County Newssays: The road between Drewsey and Harney is scarcely ever traveled and the bold highway assassin knowing that Mr. Bright was in the neighborhood and knowing also that he was likely to have considerable money about him, laid in wait for his unsuspecting victim, and committed the fearrful deed, realizing that the chances for his capture and punishment were few.In that thinly populated country his opportunities for escape were indeed many, but we hope to see the citizens take the matter in hand and not rest til the wretched offender of the laws of God and man is made to feel the just punishment which the nature of his crime demands.
