SAMUEL J. BRIGHT was born in Gallia County, Ohio, Sept. l7, l846. He was the son of JOHN and POLLY ANN BRIGHT and came to Iowa with his parents when a small boy and resided in Decatur and Wayne Counties the rest of his life. He was the youngest of a family of five, but two sisters now remaining, MARGARET HARRIS, of Scammon, Kansas; and MARY J. MOORE, of Lineville, also three half-sisters and two half-brothers.
He was united in marriage to MARY A. WOOD, April 25, l868, and to this union nine children were born, five girls and four boys, three dying in early life. The remaining are DELLA LILLARD, Lanesboro, Iowa; FLORA RICHARDSON, Pleasanton, Iowa; WILL, of Des Moines, and WALTER, MARGARET and JOHN, of the home place; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. These with the mother are left to mourn his loss.
He was a good man and always ready to lend a hand in time of need and to share his home and his table with anyone who happened his way.
He died at his home in Lineville, July 6, l925, age 78 years, 9 months and l9 days. He leaves beside his family, numerous relatives and friends who hope to meet him in the Great Beyond.
