I once had in my possession a marriage certificate for my ggrandmother, Martha J Bright. It states that she married my ggrandfather, James T (or I) Kelly in Madison Co, IL on 8 March 1870. No age at time of marriage given but the certificate stated that she was born in Missouri..no town given. The family estimates her DoB as c. 1848. She died in childbirth on 27 June 1873 in Edwardsville, IL. James had preceded her in death by a couple of months. (Per family lore, there is some scandal to that story but no details) My grandfather, Raymond Thomas Kelly had been born 11 Feb 1871. Martha had given birth to twin boys on the day she died, only one of whom, John Wesley Kelly, had survived. Martha had a sister who had been tending her through her pregnancy. The sister (name not known, but possibly last name Dickerson or Robinson..both families had long histories with my Kelly folks) took my grandfather and grand-uncle John back to Missouri where she raised them. At some point that family moved to San Fernando Valley in southern California sometime before 1906. Beyond these few details, the only other information I have are family whispers that Martha's family held very bad feelings towards James and that the boys, to my knowledge, never had any further association with their Kelly kin. In fact, even the spelling of their last name was changed to Kelley. If any of this rings any bells, I would love to hear from you. Thanks in advance.
