Hi Leslie--I am still here, but not functioning too well here in TX. I had another query about Henry Maggard from a "cousin" with Indian blood today, so dug into my long neglected files. I have copies of land records in Sullivan County TN, some of which I remember getting over 20 years ago, and some I don't remember where they came from, but you are the only JAMES BRIGHT person I have corresponded with, so I have to ask--DID YOU SEND THEM TO ME?
I have the indenture of James Roberts of Wayne Co.KY to Thomas Bright of Sullivan Co. TN dated 30 October 1805 and witnessed by James Roberts, William Roberts, and Graham Roberts--Book 6 page 3. I know the story of the Roberts massacre.
But among the other records I find indenture between THOMAS BRIGHT and HENRY MAGGART dated 7 March 1808-BOOK 10 page 485, Sullivan Co. TN. A line "along JAMES BRIGHT'S" is mentioned.
JAMES BRIGHT is mentioned BOOK 6 page 262 and 263 in indenture with JOHN STEERS in the presence of HENRY MAGGART, 11 Nov. 1812.
The earliest record I have is land granted to THOMAS BRIGHT "and his heirs forever", by JAMES MONROE in Richmond VA 1802.
I have lost a lot of my correspodences, but did we ever discuss the implications of these records in our efforts to establish a relationship between my Thomas Bright and your James Bright?
My memory is fading, ravaged by fibromyalgia, and I would like to get all of this sorted out and into the records of someone who can still sort it all out!Pat
