I am really sorry that we have not connected since you wrote this message I am responding to, two years ago!We live in Williamsburg, and my Bright/Brite ancestors came originally to VA, in the area that now is Chesapeake, VA, formerly called "Lower Norfolk County."By 1700, the three sons of John Bright, who we think was the initial immigrant from England, came down to North Carolina.
John, the first son, went to Bath. His descendants are well-known and documented.
Richard went to Moyock, Currituck Co., where he got a land grant in 1696.
Henry went to Pasquotank and Currituck.I am descended from his line of Brights--later called "Brite".
The alumni house at William & Mary originally was called the Bright House, named for Robert Bright and others who owned that very nice house on the campus, near the stadium. About 1927, the Brights gave the house to the University.
However, I don't know how or if I am descended from that family. At this point, it is hard to know.I have had quite a time trying to understand the various Brights who came to VA as early as 1642. Most, I think, were indentured servants. All I have is a handful of early deeds and some land grants.
In North Carolina, I know more about the various lines.
What do you know about your husband's ancestors, especially in VA?
Do you get back to Williamsburg? If so, let me know, and I would love to meet you folks.I didn't get a message telling me that you had posted a reply to my message two years ago!I would have answered you then, and I really hope that you get this message. If so, PLEASE WRITE BACK!
