Nancy Ann Bright McNeece Tanner was my great grandmother. Her son, John Leonard McNeece, was my grandfather and I am her namesake. My mother, now deceased, writes in the McNeece history that Nancy Ann was one-fourth or one-half Indian. She was born in Plymouth, Indiana in 1859 and died 1920 in Brookfield, MO in her home at the age of 61. She was a diabetic as were several of her children including my grandfather. She and Thomas J. McNeece had six children--one dying at an early age. She is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Brookfield, MO. My mother writes Nancy Ann "was a very hard working woman--sweet, goodnatured and patient. She did washings on a washboard for several customers but was never too busy for her grandchildren."
