My apologies for not seeing your reply earlier in 2008 regarding the Bright & Schooling family trees of Lawrence Co. MO.We are 12 family trees that are allied by intermarriages to one another and met for the first reunion in September 1934 with Boucher, Cagle, Morris and Pruitt families.
Our Schooling Progenitor is Joseph Schooling born 1782 in Virginia and died 1850 in Lawrence Co. MO. There are Schooling family members who hold their own reunion and will attend ours scheduled reunions but not as frequently. In 1947, it became known the Cagles were allied to Schooling, Hewlett and Bouchers and Bright had ties to Hewletts. So it was expanded for other families that led to the number 12 Progenitors that comprise our Reunion now. Our Bright Progenitor is Tobias Bright b 1732 in Spartenburg Co. South Carolina. He died in Shelby Co. KY in 1801, while his son Tobias Jr died in 1829 in Allen Co KY.I have seen an earlier Tobias Bright in Virginia and am not certain if this is the same line or a son who left Virginia and came to SC? There is a Bright family history published that shows Ford as he was married to Jane Ford.
Tobias Bright had a Tobias Bright Jr and another son Albertus who migrated from SC to Shelby Co. KY then on to Allen Co. KY after moving further west to Barry County that later became Lawrence County in May 1845.A George Bright was one of 3 men chosen to judge the election votes. The spelling of the name from Bright to Brite seems to have changed about the year 1829.
We are holding our 77th 12 Pioneer Family Reunion this coming 3d Sunday September 2011 in Monett, MO at the City Park Casino where it has been held since the 3d Sunday September in 1934.We also have a large granite marker monument with the names of the 12 families at the intersection of Highway 97 and County Road 2060 north of Pierce City, Lawrence, MO.
To see if your Brights could be related to our Bright/Brite line of Tobias Bright Sr and his sons Albertus Sr and Tobias Jr and George Brite, check out the Missouri Death Index on www.sos.mo.gov/genealogy&history/databases, then scroll down to Missouri Death Certificates 1910-1960.
I found Albertus Bright in 1796 in Fayette Co KY with 2 land deeds, then moved to Allen Co. KY.He died in 1859 in Lawrence Co. MO.
