I am also researching the Bright's of McDowell NC.I have record of a Davis Brightborn 7 April 1822.He married Martha Spake 10 Dec. 1849.He died 20 Dec. 1863. Both he and Martha are buried in the Providence United Methodist Cem. in McDowell Co. NC.Is this the Davis you referring to?In the 1850 Census of McDowell Co. NC, Davis is listed with a Sarah Bright age 53 and Davis is listed as being 25 years old. In the 1840 Burke Co. NC census Sarah is listed as the head of the household and there is one male child between the age of 15 and 20.This should be Davis. The 1830 census of Burke Co. NC lists a William Bright with one male child between the age of 5 and 10.The oldest female listed is between the age of 30 and 40.Sarah would have been 33 in 1830. It is my belief that William and Sarah are the parents. Of course I have no proof beyond this.Hope this will help put you in the right direction. You never know. Maybe you can help me.The Bright family I am most interested in is John Bright listed in the 1850 McDowellcensus age 60.He married Lucy Fortune 11 Apr 1812.It is my belief that he is my ggg-grandfather. My gg-grandfather Adolphus E. Bright was one of the first Brights to go west.He settled in Benton County, AR. around 1851.John and William would have been about the same age. They may have been brothers. I realize alot of this is speculation but its something to think about. I am also interested in knowing about the Brights of Knox Co. Ky. and how many settled in that area. I will be glad to share any info I might have on NC Brights.
