Moses L. Brightwell, was my gg grandfather. He died in 1907 in Amherst Co., VA. His funeral was held at Concord Depot, VA and he is buried in a family cemetery near Concord. The mystery unfolds when a Confederate tombstone was recently found this summer-2004, still in its crate with bands around it. It was found on a farm near Naurna, VA, which is appox. 20 miles from Concord. It has inscribed [Moses L Brightwell Co I 1 Conf. Engrs. CSA]. A newspaper article in the Brookneal, VA - The Union Star dated July 7, 2004 details the mystery. It was also in the Altavista Journal and can be reached on line at: : www.wpcva.com/altavista/ , then click archives, click advance search options, enter date 7-07-2004 enter search word Brightwell, click perform search. As of this posting there are three articles at the newspaper website. The articles entitled: (Effort underway to unite stone, grave) and (Reader appreciative of feature article) detail the mystery. If you have trouble finding the site, email me and I'll email you the article. I have learned from relatives, whom I have found since these articles were published, that they saw this stone in the late 1930's at there grandparents home in Gladys, VA. Seems like no one knows where Moses is buried. If anyone can help solve this mystery it would be greatly appreciated.
