Charles Brightwell SR (1756-1847) left a will naming all of his children. He had two sons: William Brightwell(b.1784) & Barnett U Brightwell (b.1787)--Barnett U was the one still living at home in 1810.
Charles's brother Barnett died in the early 1830's; he did not leave a will; but he did leave extensive estate records naming all of his children including Charles.(see my posting #188)
Keep in mind, prior to the Civil War the terms "SR" and "JR" did not imply a father/son relationship as they do now; it simply meant "the older one" and "the younger one". Charles Brightwell SR & Charles Brightwell JR were uncle/nephew NOT father/son.
In early Prince Edward Co VA records, you will find many reference to William Brightwell SR and JR.They also were uncle/nephew NOT father son.
