Re: Brigmans in N.C., S.C.
I believe I have some information about the Henry you are asking about. My grandfather was Isaac Franklin Brigmond, b. 12/18/1906 in Douglas, Coffee County, GA.His father was Henry Franklin, b. 5/7/1874 in Chesterfield, SC. His father was Henry Allen, son of John Washington Strong Brigman.I got the birthdates from my grandfather about 17 years ago. As for the spelling change from 'man to 'mond I don't have a verified reason only a story that it started in 1922, John Westley Brigman (son of Lanie Cowart and Henry Allen Brigman) applied for a marriage license to marry Lillie Mae Horton.John Westley Brigman's draft record shows he could neither read nor write so, the county clerk may have recorded his name from the way it sounded. After that it sort of stuck.
