Re: Brinson's of Rankin and Simpson Co, Ms
Pat, you may already have this info, but it just so happens that I found the marriage record of Sarah Brinson and S.D. Byrd in Rankin Co, MS, 4th Dec. 1863. The marriage was performed by my gggf Rev. Jeremiah F. Johnson.
I was trying to find evidence of JFJ's whereabouts during the Civil War. We knew he was on the 1860 census in Rankin Co. Then I found this Byrd-Brinson marriage in 1863. After that, I found an 1866 Simpson Co census which had him listed on the same page as the C.J. Brinson family and the J.W. Byrd family. So it seems he spent the war years here.
Maybe you can tell me where in Rankin and Simpson Counties these people were located, the churches they attended, etc. I found a Clear Branch Cemetery 8 mi SW of Florence, which would be around Star, and there were several Byrd and Brinson graves. Were they related to your family? We suspect a connection between the Byrds and the Johnsons, but have very little evidence.
Jerry Stevens is looking for Brinsons in this area, too. Maybe he would like to join our conversation.
