Philip English/Langlois connection to Jean Pain???

Hi Janet,
I hope this helps you make that connection.
First, regarding Philip English:
His name was Philippe Langlois on the Isle of Jersey. Philippe's father was Jean Langlois. Philippe was baptised in Trinity Church. This is well-documented there. See the Guernsey Society http://www.guernsey-society.org.uk/donkipedia/index.php5?title=Philip_Englishhttp://www.guernsey-society.org.uk/donkipedia/index.php5?title=Philip_English as that can help you find the documentation that includes his godparents, etc.
Jean Langlois (Philippe's father):
Jean Lanlois, Philippe's father, is sometimes referred to as Jean Pin or Pain (in PRDH). Pin ou Pain is a dit name, that I'm not sure Jean Langlois of Trinity, Jersey Isle, Channel Islands ever used. Although Pain (or Pin) is listed as a dit name for Langlois in some quebec documentation for members of the English, family, all of the information I have seen to this point from the Guernsey Society, Channel Islands is that the family name is Langlois (English).
When Philippe arrived in Salem, Massachusetts he Anglicised his name to Philip English.
John English (Philippe's son):
John English is the child of Philip English and Sara Ingersoll. Mary Hollingworth died in 1696, and Sara Ingersoll married Philip on 20 Sep 1698 (see Massachusetts Marriages, 1633-1850, about Phillip English). The Essex Institute records referring to some of these events.
Those events occuring in the area of Salem, Massachusetts are available online, free of charge through Google Books. It lists the primary sources. Most for English/Hollingworth, are listed as the Salem Court record.
[Philip was jailed twice in Salem - once for charges of witchcraft (as was his first wife, Mary Hollingworth) and once for refusing to pay taxes to the church in Salem.]
Back to John English, son of Philip English and second wife Sara Ingersoll:
At some point John English became known as Jean Pin (ou Pain) in Quebec. The time in Salem history is significant. The English family (and many in the area originally from Jersey, Channel Islands, were loyalists and Anglican). John and his family may have gone north to avoid danger given the political and religious leanings of the area and the fomenting revolution.
Marie Herve:
John English's (Jean Pain's ou Pin's) wife was Marie Hervé (or Mary(?) Harvey) - sometimes listed as Gervais, possible transcription error or a simple spelling difference (understandable when you consider how the name might have been pronounced in different locations).
FamilySearch Disc #111 Pin #582485 lists Marie Hervé as marrying John English (Jean Pin) Disc #111 Pin #582484 in Salem, Massachusetts. I haven't been able to verify that. If you do I would be grateful to know.
