Re: SC/AL/MS Dead End

Hope someone recognizes this person, Leroy Britt/Brett Born in SC abt 1825,
on 1860 census in AL with wife Susan and son James H,
midwife in house named Susan Rayburn b. abt 1780 SC.
He was killed in the final weeks of the civil war after being wounded earlier. Lived in Clarke/Marengo/Choctaw area. On his sons death certificate he is simply listed as COL. This might be Colon/Colin but I don't think it was meant as Colonel. These kids looked to be dirt poor. Will welcome any clues, am at a dead end.
