Seeking information on the highest bidder of William Parker BRITTINGHAM's Estate which was sold at aution on 29 July 1882, in Elizabeth City County (now Hampton) VA.
According to records, the highest bidder was Genl. Joseph J. REYNOLDS.
I know that the General's wife name was Mary E. (Surname ?). His daughter (Kate), married a Edward E HAYDEN, son of William J and Louise Anna HAYDEN.
Kate, the General's daughter was born in Louisiana.
Does anyone know of the circumstances surrounding the reason for the auction, who this General Joseph J. REYNOLDS was, who he served (Confederate or Union-assuming that he served in the Civil War), etc.
Perhaps someone's data base on BRITTINGHAM will have some information on this.
I have also posted an inquiry on this in the REYNOLDS genforum.com
