Don, According to my research, the James I. Brockwell b.1833 and George W. Brockwell b.1844 were brothers, sons of John Brockwell b.1813 and Rachel Warren, grandsons of Edmund Brockwell b.abt 1785 and Lotty Rhodes b. abt 1785, and great-grandsons of Archibald Brockwell, Sr. b.abt. 1760 and his unknown first wife. The Roster of Confederate Soldiers shows that James I. Brockwell served in the North Carolina 28th Infantry Regiment and George W. Brockwell as serving in the North Carolina 13th and 66th Infantry Regiments.
My research is a work in progress, so I have not yet completed my work on the descendants of John Brockwell. The data I have collected so far includes a George Brockwell born about 1880 who was the youngest brother of my great grandfather Charles Linwood Brockwell b. 1873. I alos have data on a George Brockwell b. abt 1866, but I have not been able to connect him to a pair of parents.I will keep looking.I am supposed to meet with my fathers first cousin Kathleen Brockwell Robertson over in Carrboro soon. She may be able to spread some light on the connection.
Sorry I took so long to respond.Hope this helps. The data from your family Bible is a real help to me.I do have the George b.1866 married to Berta, but did not know her last name and I had Katie Mae, but none of the others. My records show George b.abt.1866 as the son of William B. Brockwell b.1825, but that cannot be since he was killed in action in the Battle of Wilderness north of Richmond in 1864 - before your George W.'s birth.
William B. Brockwell b.1825 married Ellen Davis in 1849.I do show them with twin daughters, Sarah A. E. Brockwell and Martha Ellen "Mattie" Brockwell. Both married Perkins brothers.Later Mattie married Geroge W. Thompson in 1891 and had three children, Mary Louise Thompson b. 2/17/1894, James Robert Thompson b. 5/10/1896 and Bessie Leigh Thompson b. 10/19/1898.
