My grandfather,William Everett Brown, born in Harrison Cnty., Iowa was a son of Thankful Delight Smith and William Wesley Brown. Thankful was born in Pennsylvania and William Wesley Brown was born Jan. 1823 in North Carolina. They were marriedAugust 1852 in Pike Cnty., Illinois.
William Wesley Brown was a son of Staten/Staton Brown and Dicy Coffield. Staten Brown was born about 1799 in North Carolina according to census records. The 1830 U.S. Census shows Staten Brown and family living in Halifax Cnty., N.C. The 1840 Census shows them in Indiana as does the 1850 census. During the latter part of 1850 they moved to Pike Cnty., Illinois. During the 1840's Staten married Penelope (Penny) Ruby in Rush Cnty., Indiana.
After Thankful Delight Smith passed away my grandfather left his family in the west and came east looking for his roots. He went into N.C. and them worked his way up the east coast, finally settling in New England.
