Eleanor Browne Hollmann
I am looking for information on my mother's mother. My mother was born Aug. 1922 to: Frederick Lawrence Hollmann and Eleanor Browne Hollmann in New York City, NY. The only real information I have is from mother's baptismal certificate from St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Brooklyn NY. Eleanor Browne's brother, Harold Browne was designatedmother's god-father and was a witness to the baptism. About 2-3 years later my Uncle Fred was born. A few months after he was born my grandmother and grandfather seperated. My mother remembers seeing her at least 2 more times before she was 9 years old. However, my grandfather would never talk about what happened to her or ever gave mother any information on her family. In those days you just didn't talk about family troubles especially Catholic families.
If anyone out there in the New York area remembers anything about this person or her family I would appreciate hearing from you.
I have tried the census records but apparently not everyone filled out census records. At least not my grandfather in his life time. He is missing from all census records since he was born in 1900. Mother said he always refused to give the information because it was no one's business but his. I have also been unable to find a record of the marriage in New York City. But that isn't surprising considering the number of people and the amount of physical changes in Brooklyn since 1920. I am not even sure St. Jerome's Church still exists.
