Re: Eleanor Browne Hollmann
Thank you for the information. At last I may be able to get some permanent records of my mother's birth. Eleanor Browne was last seen by my mother in 1931 when she was 9 years old. We have never been able to obtain any information on her or her family. My mother was born at home and according to the State of New York she wasn't even born. Apparently they didn't require home births to be recorded by the midwife or doctor at that time.
The only thing we ever had was the Ba[tismal Certificate. It took us 5 years to get the Social Security Admin. to accept this.
I was very surprised to learn that New York City as large as it was even then had such poor records. We have even had a hard time finding my birth record from St. Vincents Hospital. We fortunately finaly found my original birth certificate in some old papers my father had. (My parents divorced in 1958.)
If you ever need any help from my part of the country just let me know. I live in Savannah, Ga. and we have a wonderful Genealogy Dept. in our local library.
Once again thanks.
