Ira & James Brownell
Dear Brownell Family GenForum Readers,
I am cross-posting a query I had posted some long while ago on the ancestry.com message boards:
"Dear Brownell Family Researchers,
"I am attempting to determine whether the James Brownell, son of Ira Brownell, as listed in the 1850 Federal census of Schenectady, New York [2nd ward, Schenectady, Schenectady County, New York; Microfilm series M432; Roll 594, page 121 (image 246)]is the same man who later married Margaret (--?--) and was living in Schenectady during the 1860 census.
"Said James Brownell was said in the 1860 canvass to be 35 years of age and a ticket agent for the railroad. He and Margaret (she is said in this 1860 count to have been 31), had at this time a daughter Harriet L. Brownell, aged 3, and a son Frank V. Brownell, aged 6. The same family group is observed ten years later in the 1870 census for Scennectady [Schenectady, NY. Microfilm series M593; Roll 1090, page 418, image 409; see also the 1880 Federal census for schenectady T9, Roll 929, page 171, image #734].
"My focus is upon the daughter Harriet "Hattie" Brownell, born say about 1855, and her later life as an adult.
"Specifically, I am wondering whether this is the woman of that name who married, as his first wife, Charles Chauncey Duryee, physician and twice mayor of Schenectady, New York.
"If so, this Brownell descendant will have died during the mid-1890s and was the mother of three children.
"Thank you for considering my query,
If you can help me with my query I will be most grateful to hear from you.
