Fascinating first name - where did it originate ? Sounds Franco-Spanish, maybe from Moorish/Arabic ... ?
I have no relationship to this family at all, but I wonder if Isambard Kingdom Brunel is the person I heard mentioned the other day on Canadian public radio (CBC). They said someone named "Brunel[le]" built the first railway to Cornwall UK (I assume it was from London ?).
I believe the radio item said he built the line in connection with the laying of the first Trans-Atlantic cable between Valencia, Ireland and Heart's Content, Newfoundland around 1851. I'm not quite sure what the connection is with a rail line to Cornwall, but perhaps it was to transport the huge single, non-segmented cable to a port where it was then loaded aboard the ship "Great Eastern". As I recall from reading about this long ago, the cable was successfully laid out by May 1851, but after a few weeks in operation, something snapped underwater and they had to lay a new one around 1855 or so. I think that one remained in operation for a number of years.
