Looking for information on Martha Brunett who married Jackie Burcher somewhere around 1820 to 1840, we think in IN, KY or TN.She was said to be a full blooded Cherokee Indian. She was also said to have had one brother and five sisters, Gene, Mary, Alice, Celia and Linda.
Martha and Jackie's children were Sam, Albert, Claud, Charles, Jess, Ida, Mollie, Hattie and Nettie. The only dates I know are Nettie's.She was born May 30, 1877 in Scarsbrough, TN, died February 06, 1896.and married Isaac Vanderbuilt Guy.Isaac was born November 10, 1869 in Morgan Co., IN, died August 13, 1923 in Lake City, TN.Isaac and Nettie had two daughters, Martha and Laura Bell.
Laura Bell was born July 15, 1894 in Clinton, TN, died June 24, 1977 and married Owen Thomas Moore. Her mother died when she was about two and her grandmother Martha Brunett Butcher was still alive and helped raise her.
As I understood it, Jackie Butcher was said to be a traveling preacher who fell in love with the Indian girl, Martha Brunett, and wanted to marry her, but her father said no.So they eloped, moved a few miles down the road and lived happily ever after?
Laura Bell Guy was my Wife's grandmother. She told me stories about her family before she died.I wish I had recorded her stories or taken notes, but I think I have the above as she told it.
