Frank: Thank you for the information. Since we posted this, we have found a lot of information on our family.
This is the list of Rosianne (real name was Rosa) Brunet's siblings:
Alexandre Groulx (born from Henriette Brière's first mariage) - July 25, 1867 Julie Brunet (Born ?, M to Onesime Godmer, Oct 11, 1884 in St-Joseph du Lac) Joseph Brunet (B?, M?) Caroline Brunet (as per your post) Elmire Brunet (B. Dec 25, 1868 tbc, M. as per your post) Daniel Brunet (B?, M?) Sarah (B?, M?) Celina (Lina) Brunet (B. Oct 20, 1877 tbc) Marguerite Brunet (B. Jan 6, 1881 tbc) Rosa (Rosianne) Brunet (B July 24, 1884 in Crown Point, Essex, NY, M date? to Eugène Lépine)
As you indicated, the parents are Michel Brunet (B. March 27, 1838 tbc) and Henriette Brière (B. Dec 4, 1841)
Henriette's first marriage was with Benjamin Groulx on Nov 3, 1857, in Montreal.
Michel Brunet's parents were indeed Joseph Brunet and Amable Thiot.
The history of Henriette Brière is quite interesting:
Henriette was born from the first marriage of Étienne Brière with Marie-Rose Chénier (Married on Sept 4, 1838, in Montreal). Henriette had one brother (Étienne) from this union.
Étienne Brière second marriage was with Françoise Chouinard (M April 23, 1844 in Ste-Martine of Chateauguay).
Étienne and Françoise had 7 children, some born in Montreal but they moved to the USA at some point and changed the spelling of their name to Breeyear. The children are: Daniel (B. Dec 18, 1844) Alexandre (B. Feb 2, 1846) Daniel (B. Aug 13, 1849) Caroline (B. 1853) Margrett (B. 1854) Eliza ( B. 1856) Mary (B. 1858)
I have more information on Marie-Rose Chénier and Étienne Brière and their siblings for those interested but we were able to solve a mystery by long hours of research in the church records.
The mystery was the following: the records indicated that Marie-Rose Chénier married Joseph Lepage on Nov 24, 1845. The records also indicated that Marie-Rose's parents were also Louis Chénier and Marie-Rose Poirier (the same as the Marie-Rose who married Étienne Brière). Knowing that divorces were impossible, we were in a dead-end until we found the death certificates (yes with a 's') for Marie-Rose.
What happened is that one of Marie-Rose's sister -- Marie (B. July 20, 1824) -- used the name of her sister when she married Joseph Lepage. The rest is speculation: is it possible that she used her sister's name because she raised Henriette and Etienne (the only 2 child borned from Etienne Brière - Marie-Rose Chénier union.
This would then explain why Henriette Brière wed in Montreal, got most of her children in Canada and moved to New York state where my grand mother Rosa was born. She probably went to the USA to meet her real father who, by then, was settled there.
If anyone has more information about the Brunet and the Brière (Breeyear) listed here, please do not hesitate to post what you have.
Also, as I indicated earlier, I have a lot more information on the 2 previous generations of Chénier (parents of Marie-Rose) and Brière (parents of Étienne). Let me know if interested.
