Hi Tamara,
First of all, you are confusing me with the type of DNA test that you and your brother got. When you call it a Deep DNA test, it makes me thing that you got the type that FamilyTree DNA calls their Family Finder Autosomal DNA test which gives percentages of the type of DNA that you have (Asian, European, etc.).When you started talking about the female ancestry and male ancestry, it then makes me wonder if you actually got the mitochondrial DNA test (mtDNA) for yourself and that your brother got the Y-Chromosome DNA test (Y-DNA).If you got the test with the percentages, it is only accurate for the last 4 generations (back to great grandparents), as it is based on inherited DNA, which is just like inherited genes. You and your brother could take the same test and get different percentages, depending on which DNA was inherited. If you got the mtDNA test, it does not take into account ALL females in your ancestry but ONLY your direct female line through your mother, her mother, her mother, on back.If there is a full-blooded Indian in that single direct female line, it will show up as that DNA signature. Is that what you got?Since you apparently have no Grigsbys in your mtDNA line, it would have no bearing on Indians in the Grigsby family, but would show that you definitely descend from a female Indian in your maternal line, whatever that is.You may have many other Indian lines in other families in your ancestry, but those would not show up in your mtDNA line.If your grandmother was Clara Grigsby, your maiden name and the surname of your brother would not likely also be Grigsby.Your brother's Y-DNA test would be for whatever surname that he bears and not the Grigsby surname. It would only show if he had a direct male Indian ancestor in his line from father to paternal grandfather to paternal great grandfather on back.Speaking of William Redman, neither your mtDNA or your brother's Y-DNA would be able to show any connection to William Redman. It is highly unlikely that a percentage DNA test would show any connection to William Redman, either, as he is too many generations back for that test.I hope that you can understand what I am saying. In regard to your positive Indian connection in the DNA, I would be very interested in the names of your maternal line, if they are in the King George or surrounding area, as it may prove the Indian connection of another family besides the Grigsbys. It could be very beneficial to many.
Thanks,
Bill Deyo
