Joseph Bubar once held the deed to some property on Bailey's Island down by Brunswick. This land was also sold to a wealthy English Land investor. When it went to the courts, Bubar was out of luck, land and money. His son's were not happy about this and became some of the early libertymen of the revolution in Maine. After dressing up as Indians and killing redcoats, they fled north and eventually some of Josephs son's settled in the county. I got this from a Discover Maine magazine article.
