Gosh! You have it!I went back and tried Ellis Island again and actually went through a list of a few hundred hits and found Sofus A BUCK as spelled .........I had to use a surname only to locate him,but there he was, landing in New York on Sept 26, 1899 and he was going to an Aunt's home in Chicago.I think I have the correct aunt found in Chicago.... {her surname was BUCK also and while it was hard to read the 1st name, I think it is Christine].
I have a friend in Chicago looking for the marriage and divorce records for Sofus and his 1st wife, May RATHJAN for circa 1905.
I appreciate the interesting idea of the Danish genealogy pages idea.I never thought of it. Iam going to check out this site!It is always good to look at all things and I have become stale with my expansion of ideas.
Interestingly, I found the second marriage of May to our Grandpa THANK and she seems to know who her parents were but give conflicting birth places for the father when compared to the census reports.I guess perhaps there was smoe confusion as to how to answer questions:where born vs where living. At least, we now have something else to work with for May and Sofus.
Most Regards,
Linda
