Two sisters, Sally Ann and Melissa Jane Francisco, married what may prove to be two Bucknam brothers, Martin and James G.
Sally Ann Francisco married Martin Bucknam in St. Joseph Co., MI. (Thanks to the index on the county's GenWebsite, I know the record exists...I just haven't seen it yet.) I have thus far been unable to locate them on the 1870 Michigan Census, but in 1880, they were enumerated in Vergennes, Jackson Co., IL as follows:
1880 US Census for Vergennes Twp., Jackson Co., IL Family History Library Film: 1254214 NA Film Number: T9-0214 Page Number: 107B
Melissa Jane Francisco was born 9 February, 1834 in New York and died 9 May, 1859 in St. Joseph Co., MI. She married James G. Bucknam and they may have had a son named Frank. She is buried in Morrison Cemetery, Fabius Two., St. Joseph Co., MI. I have not yet been able to locate any sort of census record for these three people. All I have is a photograph of Melissa's tombstone, which, fortunately, is in stellar condition.
Both of these Buchnam wives were daughters of Stephen L. Francisco and his second wife, Mary WAGER. Both were listed as heirs to the estate of their cousin, Michael A. Francisco of Yates Co., NY, a prominent attorney, judge and landowner. This was probated in early 1865 and Melissa was listed as being deceased.
Stephen L. Francisco was a son of Revolutionary War veteran Levi Francisco and his second wife, Charity CARPENTER. They are not my direct ancestors, but thanks to the incredible amount and degree of intermarriage within several family lines, I have found it necessary to trace almost everyone.
Thanks to the fairly common misspelling of the Bucknam surname as "Buckman", I have been having a dreadful time sorting this out! I hope one or more of you might be able to help me. It would be greatly appreciated!
