Hello Joe,
We are working on the same family line. Please go down the Burch forum and read all of the entries by Bernice Wright and Olin Tillotson (me) labeled "Marilu Smallwood Burch" and you will get a great deal of the information on this line available to date.
When Edward Burch, a root doctor in Lowndes County died, he left a wife Isabella and children Margaretta A.,George C. and Leonard (and perhaps others). Isabella may have earlier known (?in Tattnall County) John Osteen, who was a justice of the peace and later first County Judge in Taylor County, Florida. He had apparently lost his wife sometime between 1857 and 1860 and Isabella married him. George C. had been in John Osteen's family in 1850 at age 16 as an inmate, for whatever reason.
George C. served in the Confederate army and survived the war and later became a property appraiser in Lafayette County, married and had several children.
I am tracing the Osteen family but am, like you, anxious to learn the ancestry of Burch family. Hope to hear from you.
