a few specifics
My previous posting mentioned the Burches were in King and Queen county by at least 1704.I should add that William Burch received a grant of 345 acres on 20 Oct 1665 on the north side of the Mattapony River in New Kent County which land fell into King and Queen after it was created.
The 1704 Quit Rent List, found in England, shows the landowners in Virginia in 1704.The only Burch/Birch names included are:
Henry Burch,King William Co.,200 acres
John Burch,King and Queen County,100 acres
William Burch,King and Queen County,100 acres
The "land of John Burch" is mentioned as a boundary in a 1732 grant in King & Queen to Major John Leigh.
A William and Sarah Burch sold land to William Eubank in Caroline Co Va on 14 May 1738.(Caroline County borders King & Queen and King William counties on the west.) A William Birch and a George Eubank witnessed the will of William Fleet in 1763 in St Stephens Parish,King and Queen County.
The size of this Burch family is obvious from a 1782 land tax list in King and Queen county:
Richard Burch,50 acres
Phillip Burch,100 acres
James Burch,190 acres
Elizabeth Burch,100 acres
Henry Burch,140 acres
William Burch,257 acres
Other pre-1800 references to the surname Burch in King and Queen county would be welcomed.
