Looks like we both go back to the same guy. Don't ask where I found this, I have spent days tring to find it again. It must have been a late night find & I got in to big a hurry to get to bed, and didn't cut & paste the info.
Though a obit, the census, I have found enough to get me to this persons info. When I found it I was able to find the connection to it.
This is what I found on the first Burdge to come to America.
*FIRST IN AMERICA
Jonathan Burdge was born about 1645 in England. He died about 1700 in N. Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y..
Census shows him at Madnan's Neck (Cow's Neck), town of Hempstead, Long Island, now (Great Neck) from 1673-1678. See "Doc. Hist. New York", Vol.2, p.523, & census of Hempstead, New York,
Genealogy & Bio. Record, Vol.45, p.54-68. Family name & children mispelled as "Burdes" in Hempstead census of 1698,
Listed on tax rolls of 1685 as "Burg" with 90 acres of land.
Also refer to "Burdge genealogy" by Howard Griffith Burdge found in Cincinnati, Ohio Librayr, Washington D.A.R. Library, New York City Library, Los Angles General Library, & Chicago Newberry Library, Proable birthplace, Somerset, England.
"Long Island Genealogies" Bunker- "In 1644 the Charter of Hempstead was granted John Strickland, Robert Fordham, John Ogden, John Carman, John Lawrence, & James Wood." These men are said to be Quakers frim County Westmoreland, England, who settled at Charlestown, Massachuset 1629/30. With this basis and the known Quakers in the Burdg/e family over the years, it is a reasonable guess that Jonathan's familyu were proably Quakers.
