legend has it that Daniel BUDGE was a ships carpenter on the Royal Consort and fell in love with Elizabeth RICHARDS on the journey from England to Sydney AUSTRALIA; and being contracted to the ship, well, he "jumped ship", changed his name from BUDGE to BURGE to avoid detection and married Em. (As in E lizabeth m Matilda). It is how she was known.
