Bio: Sylvanus Leonidas Burney, s/o James Harvey Burney & Caroline E. Berry
BURNEY, SYLVANUS LEONIDAS, farmer and legislator, was born August 27, 1844, at Forsyth, Forsyth County, Ga.; son of James Harvey and Caroline Elizabeth (Berry) Burney, who lived at Forsyth. He was educated in the common schools of Chambers County; served in 1861-65 in the Western army, of the C. S. Army; entered upon farming after cessation of hostilities. He has been affiliated with both Democratic and Populist parties, and has served on committees of both parties; represented Chambers County in the legislature of 1907. He is a Methodist; Mason; and Knight of Pythias. Married: December 23, 1869, to Sallie Walker, daughter of William Alexander and Elizabeth (Cathron) Jarrett. Children: 1. James Alexander; 2. Carolyn Elizabeth, m. Frank Potts Wallace; 3. Edwin L.; 4. Sylvanus L., Jr.;
5. Annie Eliza, m. John Wade Lamb.
