My g-grandfather was named George Melon BURNHAM 1858-? married Molcy Ella Grantham.
He was son of Joshua BURNHAM and Serilda SCREWS, both buried in Pucket Cemetery.George Melon's daughter Minnie Lea (1881-1915) married my maternal grandfather John William DEAR in 1904 in Merrit, Ms.They divorced and he remarried and is buried in the Mendenhall, Ms. city cemetery.
He operated a grist/saw mill in the early 1900's on Rials Creek in Merrit, Ms where my mother would visit as a child,,, c 1920's.
There may be a connection to your George Melon with mine, if so or any of this sounds familiar to you or any BURNHAM researchers,, I would like to exchange information.
I have talked with a few Burnhams around Pucket, Ms. and none seemed to have heard of my George Melon but I know he was son of Joshua and grandson of Joel BURNHAM.
Family tidbit---I have in my dining room a three plank farm table he built (c1904) for a wedding gift for the marriege of John W and Minnie Lea,,,,,the legs were ornately turned on a lathe at his mill on Rials Creek. My mother grew up and ate from this table her entire life.I use it now to fold clothes on.
The spot where the mill was is now a small county water park, has a small waterfall and a favorite swimming hole for the locals.Rials Creek is a tributary of the Strong River and the spot of the mill is located about a half mile up creek from the river.
Merrit, Ms. is 3-4 miles south of Mendenhal on hwy 43.
