Jasper Burniston or Boniston of Yorkshire
The name I'm looking for is Boniston (Jasper Boniston, shipowner of Selby) but this is even rarer than Burniston, and I'm sure is just a corruption of it.
I have utterly failed to find any official records of Jasper Boniston, despite having a copy of his will (1832), and a copy of his widow's will (1846). Although not a direct ancestor (as he died childless), he was a very important (very rich?) person in the family, as a number of others were named after him - including my own grandfather who was named Jasper.
In the 1829 Pigot directory he is listed as Jasper Burniston. I have found, in IGI, a Jasper Burniston born in 1767 in Kirkby Wharfe who I think is most probably the same person.
Assuming the two men are one and the same, you probably already have his first wife (Sarah Swift) but his widow was named Hannah. We believe this was Hannah Dalby. Her sister or cousin Catherine was married to Jonathan Lawton, who may have been the same Jonathan Lawton who was constable of Grimston, less than a mile from Kirkby Wharfe. However, the Dalbys came from Howden, and both women, after their husbands died, lived in the Howden area.
Any information on Burniston or Boniston families in Yorkshire would be welcome and might help to anser these questions.
