Elizabethton, Carter Co., TN Burrow Family
Does anyone know who the parents were of:John F. Burrow (b. abt. 1825) and William G. Burrow (b. abt. 1821) Elizabethton, Carter Co., TN?Are John F. and William G. brothers?According to census records, their father was born in NC and their mother was born in TN.Both John and William are found in Elizabethton, Carter Co., TN census records from 1850 – 1900.John F. Burrow and Matilda Nancy Jordan were married. April 01,1848 in Elizabethton, Carter Co. TN.
In the 1830 Census for Elizabethton, Carter Co. TN, I located only one Burrow Family -- a Robert Burrow (b. abt. 1800).He was still in Carter Co. for the 1840 Census Record too, and the age categories for the household seemed to fit with John F., and William G..I later found, in the 1860 Elizabethton, Carter Co., TN census, a Martha Burrow (b. abt. 1791) living alone and her age seemed to also fit with that of Robert Burrow’s wife in the 1830 and 1840 census entries.
In the 1880 Census, I have the following information:
NAME AGE OCCUPATION
John F. Burrow 55 Blacksmith
Matilda N. Burrow53 Keep. House
Samuel Burrow 29 Laborer
William Burrow 27 Blacksmith
James Burrow 16 Blacksmith
Laura Burrow 14 At Home
(All were born in TN except for John F. Burrow's father and Matilda N. (Jordan) Burrow's father and mother. They were all born in NC.)
***********************************************************************************************************************************************
William G. Burrow 58 Tailor
Rebecca F. Burrow53 Keep. House
Mary V. Burrow 30 At Home

(Sarah H. Burrow is next in line, but was not listed.)
Eliza E. Burrow 19 At Home
William Burrow 17 Clerk in Store
Samuel Perry 19 Student
Brownlow Orr 19 Student
(All were born in TN except for William G. Burrow's father. He was born in NC.)
In Elizabethton, Carter Co. TN at the Carter Family Cemetery (John and son Landon Carter’s residence) the following Burrows are buried -- Burrow, W.G., Burrow, Rebecca F., Burrow, Mary V., Burrow, Sarah H., Burrow, Eliza E.
I am interested in the John F. Burrow’s line (b. abt. 1825, m. April 1, 1848 Matilda Nancy Jordan b. 1822), followed by Samuel Burrow (b. 1852, m. Nannie ___) , followed by Georgia Burrow (b. 6-01-1903, d. 1982).Does anyone know or have information to indicate if Robert Burrow is the father of John F. Burrow? Also, how does Robert Burrow (a man who chose, after he crossed the mountains of Western NC, for whatever reason, not to continue with the Burrow migration and settled in East TN’s rolling foothills of Elizabethton, Carter Co.) connect to the rest of the NC Burrows?Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, if the census columns are crooked, please excuse -- I tried several times to correct them, but unfortunately I was not successful.
